Clear Space Force Station is home to the 13th Space Warning Squadron, whose primary mission is to provide early warning of intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles to the Missile Warning Center at North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Clear SFS is also home to the 213th Space Warning Squadron. The units are manned by active-duty Air Force, Alaska Air National Guard, and Space Force Guardians providing 24/7 missile warning, missile defense, and space domain awareness.
The secondary mission of the 13th SWS is to provide space surveillance data on orbiting objects to the Space Control Center located at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado. The 13th SWS is part of the larger Space Delta 4 located at Buckley Space Force Base.
On June 15, 2021, Clear Air Force Station in Alaska was officially renamed Clear Space Force Station. The change was part of a broader effort to redesignate several Air Force space-focused installations, helping to build a distinct identity and culture for the United States Space Force.
