Fort Greely, located near the Alaskan city of Delta Junction, is about 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks. It functions as a U.S. Army launch site for anti-ballistic missiles and hosts the Cold Regions Test Center. Fort Greely is one of Alaska's coldest regions and it can support tests in cold, extreme cold, or temperate weather, depending on the season. Fort Greely is accessible through nearby Allen Army Airfield, approximately three miles south of Delta Junction.
On August 30, 2018, management of Fort Greely was transferred to a command based at Fort Wainwright. Going forward, the command is known as the U.S. Army Garrison Alaska (USAG), while the fort itself will continue to be called U.S. Army Garrison Greely.
