Wallops Island is a 6 square mile island off the east coast of Virginia, part of the barrier islands that stretch along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. It is located in Accomack County, VA, just south of Chincoteague Island. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) is co-located with NASA at the Wallops Flight Facility on the island.  Heading north and east, along the coast, you will reach the resort and tourist destination of Ocean City, Maryland at about 55 miles distance.   If you head straight north, you will reach Pocomoke City, MD at about 20 miles away, and then Salisbury, MD at about 47 miles distance.
