Welcome to JBMDL - Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst!

NAES Lakehurst is part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL). This three-part Joint Base combines McGuire AFB, Fort Dix, and Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst. They formed in 2009 and together, they’re able to support just about anything today. However,  while they’re all combined and relatively close in proximity to one another (Lakehurst is about 30 minutes northeast of the other two, while McGuire AFB and Fort Dix are adjacent to each other), they each serve their own mission.

Casevac relies on the closest available unit to be deployed to carry out the evacuation mission. In contrast, medevac involves a team of medical professionals with Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training on standby to be dispatched by road or with an air ambulance to the site of the injury. Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst supports and develops “the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment and Support Equipment for naval aviation. The Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System  and the Advanced Arresting Gear system that will replace the existing steam catapults and the Mk-7 arresting gear are being developed and tested at Lakehurst at  full-scale shipboard representative test facilities here.”

Area Weather & Climate

Ready for four seasons? Here, you’ll notice hot (sometimes muggy) summers and frigid winters. The spring and fall marry the two extremes and allow a few more comfortable months for those who fall under the “fair-weather person” category.

The biggest thing Mother Nature will throw your way here is a hurricane on occasion and a winter wonderland for the holiday season. It’s beautiful, but it does bring ice, and with that, there are slick roads and low visibility. Stay up-to-date on inclement weather here.

McGuire AFB is the largest employer nearby (second largest in the state) and employs off-duty military, civilians, and offers a Military Spouse Preference Program, which can help you settle into a new job more quickly.

For those interested in higher education, Thomas Edison State College, Thomas Edison State University, and The College of New Jersey are in Trenton or closer.

As far as the community is concerned, Lakehurst offers ample opportunity and things for military families to do, like bowling or outdoor adventures at Pine Ridge Outdoor Pool and Pine Ridge Golf Course. Plus, you’ll find even more things to do on Fort Dix. Check out the Camp Dix and Fam Camp, John F. Mann Recreational Park, Dix indoor pool, movie theater, Librar-e, and more. There’s a variety of things to do just on base!
