**Thank you for your overwhelming interest! Waiting on orders to finalize lease** This home is in the beautiful, well-established Kaneohe Hale Kou neighborhood. It’s a wonderful, quiet neighborhood & a perfect place to raise your Ohana. Easy access to H-3, Pali, & Likelike highways & easy commutes to Kaneohe MCBH (10-12 min), Camp Smith (18-20), Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (19-20), & Fort Shafter (18 min). All three highways can be accessed from the neighborhood within a minute or two. Kaneohe Elementary is rated above average (8/10 or 4/5, depending on reference website). We have only had one tenant since June of 2018 & they kept the home immaculate as if it was their own. It is time for them to move & we are now offering our Kaneohe Home Sweet Home to new tenants to enjoy the laid-back windward Oahu lifestyle.
100% complete renovation finished in June of 2018. Samsung stainless steel refrigerator included. All new (2017/2018) dishwasher, stove, microwave. Indoor laundry room hookups for washer & dryer. Brand new water heater in spring of 2018. Custom cabinets & quartz counters, custom finished drywall, crown molding, baseboards, & continuous commercial grade luxury vinyl tile throughout the home. Brand new custom windows ($25K) provide beautiful views & so many options to let the cool windward breeze keep your home comfortable. High quality thick window blinds allow for privacy in bedrooms & family rooms. 7 ceiling fans & recessed, dimmable LED lighting throughout the entire home provides cost efficient lighting options to set the ambient mood you desire. Thick, hard foam insulation installed on exterior bedroom walls to minimize any normal neighborhood noises. Traditional insulation installed in TV/family room/laundry ceiling & walls. Roof was double coated with GacoFlex white silicone cool roof technology & attic fans keep your family comfortable while lowering energy costs. Brand new gutters, motion sensor LED security lights, 3 new white vinyl gates, & all new paint in spring of 2018.
No HOA or hidden fees. Nearly all of the neighbors are original owners & helped to establish the neighborhood. There is not a high turnover for home sales or many renters in the neighborhood. In fact, we were shocked when the home became available for purchase in the summer of 2016 & made an offer before it officially hit the market. It is our hidden gem & we can’t wait to move back to this, our forever home, eventually. Typical monthly utility bills for electric & water/sewer/garbage/recycling ranged from $210 to $350 total (this obviously varies per family usage).
In a uniquely Hawaiian situation, the house is located off of the neighborhood road (Apuakea Street) & up a long 60’ driveway. We really enjoyed this feature, even though it was odd at first compared to mainland living, because we felt like we had our own sanctuary away from what minimal sidewalk/road traffic there is. We have a decent sized yard, by Hawaiian standards, & plenty of concrete space for the kids to safely ride bikes & scooters or for your friends to park when you have them over for entertaining. The view from the yard is great too, especially since our house & yard are above the roof level of all the houses below (save for one hill in the distance). You can see the many layers of the Ko’olau mountains stretching all the way to Mokoli’i & the turquoise blue Kaneohe Bay from your front yard. The neighbors are fantastic & the neighborhood is quiet, partially because there are no close main thoroughfares with traffic disturbing your evenings.
I worked at Camp Smith & enjoyed my commute driving past Ko’olau waterfalls & through the H-3 tunnel before exiting to Aiea. My commute from my driveway to parking at Camp Smith was between 18-20 minutes. The return trip took the same amount of time & coming out of the H-3 tunnel towards home, seeing the breath-taking Kaneohe Bay, is a memory that I will have for the rest of my life. This could be your return to home view everyday, too. An important part of living in Hawaii is to not spend too much time commuting to & from work. Anecdotally, there were only two occasions in two years where it was longer than that for me. Once when there was a wreck in the H-3 tunnel & when the H-3 was closed to film a movie.
We did the majority of our weekly shopping 12 minutes away at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base at the commissary. We recreated all over the island, but close options that we enjoyed on a regular basis included snorkeling at Secret Beach (MCBH), body boarding & picnicking at Bellows AFS (12 miles away), hiking Likelike falls, hiking Pu’u ma’eli’eli for strawberry guava, hiking Friendship Garden, & too many others to list. We also did a nightly dog walk through the neighborhood smelling fresh plumeria & sharing tropical fruit with many neighbors that we got to know. The Hale Kou neighborhood is adjacent to the wonderful Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. We did frequent family walks/kids bike rides there.
