Patrick Space Force Base, formerly known as Patrick AFB, is home to the 45th Space Wing. It was designated as the Space Launch Delta 45 in May 2021. It utilizes the Eastern Range, a rocket range (or spaceport) that stretches across the Atlantic into the Indian Ocean.
With its Eastern Range assets (Cape Canaveral Space Force Station), Space Launch Delta 45 supports the safe launches for the following:
- Department of Defense National Security Space
- National Aeronautics Space Administration
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- Commercial and Naval Ordnance Test Unit’s support to the Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs missions.
Though the renaming of Patrick SFB is recent, its history with space is not. Dating back to the 1940s, the Eastern Range served as a key component of Army Missile Testing.
Today’s mission focuses on a collection of works named "Range of the Future." The goal of Range of the Future is to increase its launch posture by improving infrastructure, operations, and innovating new technology. The hope is to increase the number of safe launches they perform.

Patrick Space Force Base is located on the east coast of Central Florida in Brevard County, known as the birthplace of space exploration. It’s approximately three miles south of Cocoa Beach and 15 miles south of Cape Canaveral. Patrick SFB is on an island between the Banana River and the Atlantic Ocean.
