Ft. Campbell is the third largest post in the U.S. Army by population and the 7th largest in the DoD. It covers over 106,700 acres of land and is home to the Army’s only Air Assault Division and the most deployed contingency forces.

Though wintertime may be milder compared to other places you’ve been stationed, you’ll likely experience some snow, with the area averaging 6 inches of snow per year. The month of January is the most dreary, with overcast skies about 54% of the time. July and August are the hottest months.

The system’s four elementary schools serve approximately 2,500 students in grades Pre-k through fifth, while the middle school and high school have about 500 students each. Students at Fort Campbell High School have an opportunity to earn dual credit through a partnership with Austin Peay State University.
Families living off post will fall under the county where they reside. There are also eleven private schools in the area, including non-sectarian, college prep, and religiously affiliated schools.
Families choosing to homeschool will need to understand the laws for the state in which they live, as there are significant differences in Kentucky and Tennessee homeschooling regulations.
