Charleston AFB home to the 437th Airlift Wing which operates the C-17 Globemaster III strategic airlift aircraft. Augmenting the 437th and co-located there is the 315th Airlift Wing of the AF Reserve. A joint civil-military airport, Charleston AFB shares runways with Charleston Int Airport. The Charleston Naval Weapons station has merged with Charleston AFB to create USAF controlled Joint Base Charleston. The Weapons Station stores munitions and nuclear aerial bombs for deck-based aircraft. The facility also supports the Maritime Prepositioning Force Program and serves as Homeport for ships as directed by the Chief of Naval Operations and Commander, Military Sealift Command.
