Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a major American shipyard and a subsidiary of General Dynamics, the 5th largest defense contractor in the U.S. Its namesake is from an iron foundry established in 1826 and the facility has been building ships since 1884. BIW is a highly respected shipyard and throughout Navy circles is the well known phrase, "Bath Built is Best Built", a saying that has been around since the early 1900's. BIW provides the US Navy with the most advanced warships in the world.
