Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg started as a private and rose to a three-star general during his logistics career with the Army and is the only living person in recent history to have a military installation named after them. Lt. Col. Charity Adams was the first black officer in what’s now known as the Women’s Army Corps in World War II and led the first predominantly black unit overseas.
