Area Weather & Climate

Yuma weather

Yuma offers a perpetual summer. Deemed the “Sunniest City on Earth,” you’ll find lots of sunshine, few rain clouds, and little no cooler weather. Although by the time winter comes around and the temperatures drop from 100 degrees, those days sitting at 70 degrees might feel a bit frigid—if you can believe it or not.

While Arizona isn’t unfamiliar with tornadoes, Yuma doesn’t see many of them. Instead, you might  feel a few earthquakes and maybe see the effects of a volcano erupting south of the border during your time here.

Yuma Territorial Prison Park: Since 1876, this historical site has worn many hats. After seeing a surge of immigrants during the gold rush, the site served as a prison and was even built by a handful of prisoners. After that, it filled in as a high school after the local school burned. They earned the name “The Prisoners” and served to help the local hospital as well as traveling families and the homeless during the Great Depression. Today, it’s an incredible site to tour and explore!

Colorado State Historic Park: A former military supply depot hosts a variety of historic buildings that represent a piece of our nation’s history.

West Wetlands Park: Outdoor adventures galore, the West Wetlands Park hosts a variety of fun activities fit for the whole family. You’ll find walking trails, a boat launch, ponds, gardens, and sure to be the kid’s favorite, the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground.
