Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) is the product of a merge between the Army's Fort Lewis and the Air Force's  McChord AFB.  The base is located about 9 miles southwest of Tacoma, Washington.  To the southwest of the southern end of the installation, via Interstate 5, is the city of Dupont, WA less than 5 miles away. Continuing southwest on I-5, are the cities of Lacey and Olympia, WA, Lacey at under 15 miles distance, and the outskirts of  Olympia at just over 15 miles.  East of the base is Spanaway, WA, and to the northeast, closer to the former McChord AFB is the city of Puyallup, WA.
