Fort Sam Houston, called "Fort Sam" by locals, is located on the northeast side of San Antonio, Texas just below San Antonio International Airport.  Randolph AFB is northeast of the post by around 12 miles or so, and in between the two installations lie the towns of Kirby, Windcrest, and Converse, TX.  Joint Base San Antonio is a consolidation of Fort Sam Houston, Randloph AFB and Lackland AFB. Near to Randolph AFB, yet still under 20 miles from Fort Sam Houston are the cities of Cibolo, Schertz, Universal City, and Live Oaks, TX.
