Elmendorf AFB, is in southern Alaska, adjacent to the city of Anchorage.  Alaska's Interstate Highway 1 lies between the base and the army post of Fort Richardson, the combined installations now known as Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER).  North of the base, via Highway 1N, sits the city of Eagle River approximately 14 miles away, and continuing even further north of the base, you will reach the town of Palmer, Alaska, at approximately 40 miles distance.
